Sutan Amrull, also known as Raja is a well known face in the LA Community having been a drag performer for 20 years in venues around the city and state. Raja began his career as a make-up artist eventually landing a place on the the reality show America's Next Top Model, serving as the show's make-up artist for nine cycles. Sutan's clients include Dita von Teese, Pamela Anderson, Paulina Porizkova, Iman, Tyra Banks and Twiggy.
Since 2009, Amrull has been lead make-up artist to singer Adam Lambert for print media, live US appearances and Lambert's year long International 2010 Glam Nation Tour. Presenting his drag alter-ego Raja, Amrull auditioned for the third season of the reality program Rupaul's Drag Race on Logo. He even included an endorsement from Adam Lambert in his audition video. Raja entered the Drag Race workroom dressed quite unconventionally for a typical Drag Queen and throughout the show, focused on the high-fashion aspects of the art, singlehandedly stealing the Runway from his competitors. Highlights include Raja's wins in the first mini challenge and first challenge of the season, impersonating Tyra Banks, winning the cake couture challenge, winning the RuPaul-a-palozza challenge and the fantasy hair challenge, and lip synching for his life against Carmen Carrera.
On April 25, 2011 during the show finale, after a lip sync battle with Manila Luzon, Raja was crowned the winner and America's Next Drag Superstar.
Raja's first post-win project was to record a victory track titled "Diamond Crowned Queen" with LA based record label Citrusonic which ended up on the Top 50 in the Billboard Dance Charts. A controversial video by filmmaker Austin Young followed and has recently debuted on VH-1's Pop Lab. Raja plans to get back in the studio and make more music as well as continue his travels as America's Drag Superstar.
